Pioneer Day

For Pioneer Day we went on a lovely but hot little hike to Battle Creek Falls.

There was a little cave along the way and we saw some people rappelling the face of the falls.

The rappellers were fascinating to watch and offered to help us go down.  They told us they even had a kid's harness for Marcus.  But there were no takers--I could hardly handle watching them go over the edge!  If Boyd and Amelia had still been there, maybe they would have done it, but they had gone off in search of a geocache.
Grandpa and Grandma met us at the top and walked down with us!
It was a great way to celebrate Pioneer Day.

* * *

And now lets go back and see some shots of Pioneer Day from the late 70s and early 80s.
Do you remember the annual Primary Parade?  How come they don't do this anymore?

Mom, I love your sunglasses in the first photo. They look straight out of today's fashion magazines! And I totally want your shoes.
Is Mark in the scout shot? I see a redhead, but I think Mark would be quite a bit older than that boy.

And who can possibly celebrate Pioneer Day without remembering the settlers of Hawaii.  All those pale skinned redheads.

I still have these prom dresses.

Happy Pioneer Day!

Grandpa Jerry's story of the giant squirrels...

I personally hope someone can convince Grandpa to write his story here! And is there a picture of him, at the age this event happened, available?

Is this better? ...

Their Story

Mom and Dad's story as recorded in their wedding book:

We met July 23, 1959, at Bear Lake
Our first date was on a Saturday around the first of November.  We went to Andy's to eat, for a ride, and then to a Stake Dance.
The next time we were together was a Saturday in Elko where chorus had gone to sing.
Our third was at a Thursday night dance when Jerry asked to take me home (this was November 27) and asked me to go bowling the next night.  I did.
The next Sunday he went with me while Symphonic sang.
After this we were together quite often, then he left for Cody.
He called, came home, we wrote, he sent flowers.
He proposed on February 19, 1960.  I got my ring February 27, 1960.  We were married on July 15, 1960.

We love you Mom and Dad!
Happy Anniversary!

Our Family

Successful marriages and families are established on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.  (From The Family:  A Proclamation to the World)

Some examples...

We sure had a great time with all of you at the cabin.  I could have stayed another week!
P.S.  I'm uploading an album of Thistle Dew pictures to Picasa to share.  I hope everyone else will too!

I can hardly wait!

So I'm really looking forward to a lot of things during this 50th anniversary celebration.  For me it's like a month full of Christmases!  So here are some things I can hardly wait for...

*  Going to the cabin with my brother, sister, mom and dad (and everyone else, of course).  That hasn't happened in a looooong time.
*  Going to Lagoon.
*  Watching the fun during the Minute to Win It competition.
*  Lots and lots of game playing.  We even have a new one to introduce to everyone.
*  Seeing my kids playing with their VA cousins.

I could go on and on.  I know this celebration is for mom and dad, but I'm going to take advantage of every minute.  I have to tell you though, there is one other thing I am super, SUPER excited about.

I can hardly wait for the Palmers to meet this guy...

He's going to love you!

What about the rest of you?  What can you hardly wait for?
