1968

Lets begin with the annual Easter photo.  Mom, is the hair-do you are wearing considered a beehive or a bouffant?  Is that the Griggs' car in the background?  Mom's notes say that Mark has the mumps.  I'm wondering if you went to church with the mumps or if you just got all dressed up for the picture.

Some cute shots of Stacey.  I'm curious if there are bloomers under that dress on the left.  That Cream-O-Weber cardboard house is so fun!  Did you just have to punch out the windows and door, or did you have to cut them out?  I'm guessing the mailbox was printed on one of the punch outs/cut outs and then you could attach it.  I remember the light on the right--was it green or amber colored?

This is one of my very favorites.  This is Mark's FIRST DATE!!!  At least, that's how mom has it labeled.  Mark leaving to attend the Granite High Pep Club dinner dance in May.  Carrie Stark was the Pep Club mascot and asked Mark to go with her.  Both of them were 6 years old and in the same Kindergarten class.

Mark and Stacey were on a television show called Fireman Frank.  This program was filmed March 28th and shown on April 2nd.  They were there with a group celebrating Tracey Williams' birthday.  While on the show, Fireman Frank asked Stacey where she got her peaches and cream complexion and she said, "My mom got it at the store."

I know this isn't the greatest photo, but I liked that it showed, in color, what the kitchen looked like.  We don't have many photos, especially color photos, of the inside of the house.  We had that double oven a long time--well into the 80s, I'm sure.  I'm wondering if this is Thanksgiving.  I'm pretty sure those are Grandma's orange rolls in the lower left corner.

Next we're going to see some photos of a trip Mom and Dad took with Glen and Lapreil (did I spell that right?) Fagg.

I'm not sure they look very happy to be on this trip.  Let's look at another.

Hmmm.  Did everyone just lose their money?

What the heck is going on with that statue?  Is that the "sobbin'" women
they sing about in 7 brides for 7 brothers?

Just to clarify--The English word "rape" is a conventional translation of Latin raptio, which in this context means abduction.  Yeah, I don't think that makes it better.  What a morbid topic for a piece of art!

Ahhh.  This is better.
Mark and Stacey arriving at Las Vegas airport where Mom and Dad were waiting for them
to go on to San Diego Zoo and Disneyland.
I think you people went to Disneyland as often as you went to the cabin!  I just might be a little jealous.

I love Stacey's expression!
She's thinking, "We totally did not stay out of the circle and this crazy monkey has his hand around my neck!  AAAAHHHH!"

Stacey's 4th birthday--August 25th 1968
At the party they played Drop the Hankie, had a turtle cake and turtle favors.  I remember those rock turtles!  Did you make them for this party?  Stacey is holding some Kiddie Kologne in the photo on the left.  The girls with her are Laurie Grahm and Marci  Fagg, but I'm not sure which is which.

Stacey's first dance revue--Friday, September 13th.
Teacher--Medra Gregson   Dance--Ellie the Elf.
Stacey did an excellent job and went to Snelgroves afterwards for treats.
You are too cute Stacey and Jeff has your exact eyes, I think.
At least their shape, even if the color is different.
From a very blurry stage photo, it looks like your costume was blue and white.  Is that correct?

Taken Sunday, November 10th.
Wow Stace, I think you look just like Katie in this one!

We'll end with a great shot of Mom and Grandma.
What's the story behind these, Mom?
You both look so happy, I really love this picture.

1967 and Comparing Kids

Before we get into 1967, I had to try a little comparing.  As I was going through the photos I found the most darling picture of Mark in a sweater, and I just happened to have taken a picture of Duncan in a sweater a few hours earlier.  Shall we see if there is a family resemblance?

This is Mark, 12-13 months old

This is Duncan, 16 months old

What do you think?  I wish Duncan's hat was off.  That might make a difference.  I think their mouths and cheeks are really similar though.  One thing that they both have in common FOR SURE though, is the cuteness.

And now on to 1967!

Here is sweet, 2 year old Stacey in January.  Again, her hair is amazing!  Mom, how did you get a 2 year old to let you take the time to style her hair lilke that?  Now look at her eyes and Duncan's eyes from above.  Do they look similar?  I think so!

I just had to put this one in, because I remember having sooooo many pictures of Dad with his head cut off!  And so it begins!

I had that dining set for years.  It was so hard to give away.
I hope someone is loving it like I did, right now.  These two color
shots are from Thanksgiving.

I have to laugh at Mark's expression.  It's like he's
looking at that paper and thinking,
"Are you sure I'm supposed to be seeing this?"

Stacey doing her Superman pose.

I'm not sure what Mark is playing with, but that
football uniform is excellent!  Fully decked
out for tackle football at 4 years old.
No wonder he's such a sports fan!
Those patio supports were great for climbing.  Especially if you wanted to climb up on the roof to lay out, or some other awesome thing like that.  Is that a stump behind Stacey?  I think I remember liking to stand on that.  And were there a few little stumps around it?  I'm sure I remember walking on those!  Am I right?

A new member of the family arrived in 1967.  A basset hound named Gaylord.  Where did that name come from, anyway?  Gaylord was the best dog ever, according to Mom.  For some reason, I thought he was still around when I was very little, but I also thought you only had him for a couple of years.  Which is it?

Now we'll move to some beautiful family Easter shots.  I'm going to make them as big as I can, so you can really enjoy them.

Priceless, right?

Another fantastic year for the Palmer family!
